abernews. PM Narendra Modi will address the nation today at 5 pm. The Prime Minister's address comes at a time when the country is witnessing a decline in Covid cases after the deadly second wave in April-May. It is being speculated that the Prime Minister will speak on the current corona virus situation in the country as many states have started the process of unlocking from today. The Prime Minister's Office said on Twitter, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation today, June 7 at 5 pm."
States including Maharashtra and Delhi have announced cautious steps towards resumption of activities in several phases. Restaurants, shops selling non-essential goods and public places in the country's financial capital Mumbai are set to reopen from Monday but malls, theaters and multiplexes will remain closed as the metropolis is classified under level 3 of 'unlock' .
While the national capital, which began the unlock exercise from May 31, will further ease restrictions from today, the government has allowed metro services to resume at 50 per cent capacity and markets and malls to reopen. Officials said teams of police and district administration have been deployed across the city to enforce covid-appropriate behavior.
Several other states and union territories have started easing lockdown restrictions this month, which they first started implementing in mid-April as the country hit the second COVID wave. The central government, however, cautioned that the unlock process should be slow and COVID-appropriate behavior needs to be strictly followed.
